Welcome to the land of Piume, I’m glad you decided to see what we’re all about. I should start by explaining where these lands come from. Firstly, Piume Equino means Feather Horse. The lands have been named as such in honor of its founding equines, those that bear the feather mark. The feather mark is a luminous feather like marking on the chest of the horse. These horses were the ones who first stumbled across the rolling terrain you now call home, and thus, they are responsible for having settled it. This is where the story gets a little crazy. No we have to go back, to a time when the once peaceful lands of Piume first became filled with civil war. Bear with me, it’s quite a tale.

Imagine a land of ancient red wood forests, waterfalls, rolling hills, a legendary purple canyon, and a mountain flecked with gold. It was a Utopia, and when the feather herds found it they knew it was the perfect place to call home. Now, as you know, the creatures of Piume are magical beings. (There is another area of the board explaining powers.) When the horses initially settled here they all shared the same four elemental powers. They could all manipulate Earth, Air, Fire, and Water equally. They all bore the feather mark upon their chest. They were all quiet, calm, wise creatures. Even the foals are born wise. As we know though, all good things must come to an end.
As the feather herds grew and started expanding across the land, a strange occurrence began. Some foals were being born without the feather mark, and they were only able to manipulate one element; Earth, Fire, or Water. At first, the Feather’s thought nothing of it, but as time went on and these foals grew it became apparent that they had VERY different personalities than their herd mates. It broke down in the following way
- Water bending equines: These creatures were of a wholesome and kind attitude, but not in the pure, boundless sense that the Feathers are. They became known as Angelics.
- Fire bending equines : These animals are of a hateful, spiteful spirit. They take pleasure in others pain. They are not against torture for information. They became known as the Demonics.
-Earth Bending equines : The last faction of new benders were very. . . Wishy washy in their decisions. They were neither hateful nor kind. They just. . . Were. They didn’t want to murder but they didn’t want to save orphans either. They became known as the Indifferent.
-Air Bending Equines : Newly born feather foals began to only be able to bend air. The typical persona of a feather remains though
As you can imagine, as the different groups grew larger, they began to split off in their own herds. The Angelics claimed the Mountains region as their own, the indifferent claimed the canyon and edges of the forest as their own, and the Demonics took to the bogs and thorny thickets at the edge of Piume, its dark pungency more akin to their liking. For a while, most everyone was happy to carry on in their own little world, but again…things never stay easy for long.
The angelic tribe was thriving. The King’s name was Roman; his queen was Helena. Together they ruled an abundant land of life and love. Their food was plentiful, their power was great. It was during this time of happiness that Helena gave birth to her first son, naming him Felix. Felix was a precocious foal, always playing pranks on his family and getting himself in trouble. It wasn’t until it was time for his powers to come in for him family to realize why. He was a fire bender. . . He was born demonic. This is a RARE occurrence, for a fire bender to be born from two waters, but it is one that happens on occasion. (This can happen in any alliance, and will occur at random throughout game play.) In most instances, the foal will grow up until he/she becomes 2 summers old, and then they will join their own tribe. In Felix’s case. . . He was a prince. It was not so easy for him. He was forced into a role he could not, by god given nature, play. In the meantime Helena gave birth to Tucker, the now King of the Angelics. At that time though, Tucker was but a colt while Felix was growing stronger every day. His family and friends told him, “Be good, be brave, fight what your heart tells you,” and all Felix could respond with, by nature was, “What Heart?”. It wasn’t for lack of trying. He simply didn’t look at the world the way the others did. Where they saw Light he saw Dark, where they saw Love he saw Hatred. Felix was doomed from the start. When he came to the realization that he was evil incarnate, he hatched a plan. By the time Felix reached 6 years old, he had grown to become an absolute master of the art of lying. He put on the heavenly angel face, and had the whole of his father’s herd thinking that not all Demonic born foals had to stay that way, that they could be transformed. Silly creatures. On the night of 6th birthday, Felix made his move.( I’d like to add briefly that Tucker was born an Angelic, and at this point in the story is a 5 year old.) So, like I said, Felix made his move. During his birthday dinner, he attacked his father. In a panic, the herd scrambled and escaped, while Felix shed his aging father’s blood, killing him as he stood at his throne. Cue Prince Tucker. In a frenzy Tucker lunged at Felix, fighting back his brother and calling forth the royal troops, who drove Felix away, banishing him from the Angelic lands forever. This is where Felix’s desire to kill his brother Tucker comes from. In Felix’s eyes, those luscious Angelic Mountains should be his.
Fast forward another 5 years. Once Felix was banished, he naturally took the throne of the resident Demonic King, and changed his name to the more appropriate Foulgrin. He began building a faction of warriors, who were able to swiftly master their elemental gift. Foulgrin was planning a war, a war in which all of Piume would have no choice but to join for fear of losing all they had. When King Tucker (young Tucker took his father’s throne after Foulgrin killed him) caught wind of this war, he scrambled to get his warriors in top form, and enlisted the Feather herds to back him. At this point in time the Feather herds were large and full of strong members, so they gave it no second thought, with their peaceful and unbiased ways, to back the Angelics.
And so it began. A 2 year war ensued. The war devastated the land, and the creatures calling it their home. The Angelics lost at least half their faction. The war and the death associated with it took a heavy toll on Tucker’s mental state, the end of said war marking the deterioration of his ability to lead the Angelics. The Demonics, being as twisted and conniving as they are, didn’t fair too horribly, but lost a great deal of their own. They were eventually defeated by the Angelics and Feather’s joint effort against them, but Foulgrin remained King, and has an even greater plan for his next attack. This leads me to the Feathers. The Feathers were almost completely wiped out. ALL of the stallions were killed, a majority of the mares, and every last foal were wiped out. Now all that remains of the Feathers are 10 mares and Lady Eleanor; barely of age and thrust onto the thrown after her parents death.
So where does that leave us in current times?
King Tucker has yet to take a mate, but his herds have rebuilt quite well. King Tucker however. . . Has not faired after the war so well. His mind is failing him. He often has nightmares of his herd mates dying before him, their screams waking him at night. He has voices playing through his mind, and try as he might, he is leading the Angelics down a dark path. Tucker desires another war, a war to wipe out all Demonic and Indifferent. He feels if you aren’t and Angelic or Feather, you don’t need to be on this land. One would think that all Tucker’s followers would be against such a dark plan, but he has a large number of them who follow his every word. This would leave one to think there is no hope for the Angelics, and yet there is one equine who is planning to overtake the throne, and lead the Angelics back to their true destiny. . . To rebuild the Lost feathers.
Lord Foulgrin, well he hasn’t changed much. A burning hatred is still strong within him. He wants Tucker DEAD. He is in the process of keeping his own army well trained and ready to fight. He has promised them all that this time, they WILL take over Piume. On top of his growing army, he has several spies and assassins being trained to kill Tucker. Like I said, Foulgrin wants him dead.
Lady Nerina did not allow her followers to take part in the war, and they continue to remain neutral in all of this. Now though, this looming land turmoil threatens to take them out with the silly brother Kings. Nerina is faced with a tough decision, will she follow the Demonics or choose the Angelics. If she doesn’t pick the right one, her lands and her followers will surely perish.
Last, but not least, the feathers. Lady Eleanore has refused to back either faction. She is firm that the last of herd will remain in hiding until the threat of Foulgrin has been removed. Little does Eleanor know, she will end up being the only hope for Piume when the war comes. I can’t tell you all exactly how the plot will twist and turn, but just know that the war will not be over until Eleanor steps out of hiding, and changes it all.
